National Day of Prayer

  • Irvine City Hall 1 Civic Center Plaza Irvine, CA, 92606 United States (map)

Join us this year for Irvine’s National Day of Prayer as we gather together in unity to pray for, encourage, and bless our city. Join us at the steps of Irvine City Hall for a special National Day of Prayer event. Open to the public, pastors, church-goers, and anyone who wants to pray. Join us for a simple yet powerful time of prayer and reflection for the health and prosperity of our city. The gathering will take place outside, so please bring water and any necessary items for outdoor comfort. Weather forecasts predict a beautiful day with temperatures in the low 70s, making it the perfect opportunity to gather and pray together!

This year’s theme is “Lift up the Word, Light up the World,” and comes from 2 Samuel 22:29-31, “For you are my lamp, O Lord, and my God lightens my darkness. For by You I can run against a troop, and by my God I can leap over a wall. This God—his way is perfect; the word of the Lord proves true; He is a shield for all those who take refuge in Him.”

What is the National Day of Prayer?

The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, inviting people of all faiths to pray for the nation. It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. The National Day of Prayer has great significance for us as a nation as it enables us to recall and to teach how our founding fathers sought the wisdom of God when faced with critical decisions. It stands as a call for us to humbly come before God, seeking His guidance for our leaders and His grace upon us as a people.

Irvine’s Vision for National Day of Prayer

Glorify God and unify public and personal prayer for America; to bless our nation, state, county, and city—its leaders and its people.
